Awesome pic! It's not necessarily a realistic representation of lava given that it tends to flow in like 1-2 directions as most given how it acting  lot like water, but it's a very imaginative composition. :D

Very impressive work. What are the real dimensions of this illustration? With so many details must have been a huge picture.

Very nice and hot-looking. The smoke is particularly well done.

As for some critique, I feel slightly perturbed by the perfectly straight, parallel lava flows coming towards us. I don't say it's impossible to see straight parallel flows like this in nature, but it does make them look a bit more artificial to my eye.

Very good subtle texturing here too.

Thanks man, i think they are natural lava flows used to guide the composition and create atmospheric space sense. i take note for future "lava" works ;D and thanks for comment.

As a Gimp user, you can try submitting your art to Gimp Magazine, they would surely be interested in featuring it ;)

The 1st issue will be released this fall but they already look for submission for the next one.

Thanks for the comment. I think 16h is still too much. i experimented too much with rocks. but now is easier to do them.

Is this partially matte painted? Or is it just a supremely divine skill in texturing and textured brushes?

I have use my own photos of rocks to create some texturing ideas in overlay mode. then i repaint the parts i want to emphasize. is 90% small round brush and Palette knife without texturing effects. and 10 %rocks brush. but this 10% is very important.

Yeah, I've found that just that little texture bumps the piece very nicely, but suggests texture and doesn't shout it out in the viewer's face.
