Nixie Pixel portrait by TheShock Nixie Pixel portrait by TheShock
WOW! Finally i have ended this picture. It has been a lot of work but, the results are ok for me.So this will be my last picture of 2009. A portrait of Nixie Pixel, a girl that is knowed by her videos on youtube about linux and games (and also weird things XD). She is a cute girl that has a lot of energy explaining things. And also a sexy voice (just joking) this is part of my tribute to Girls that are capturing my attention for something special. Who will be the next one?

If you want to know her better you can do it visiting her youtube channel . Funny, hilaryious, and very special and unique style.

Technical Info:
Done in :icongimpplz:
This picture was made with freeSoftware: Gimp 2.6.7 + GPS (gimp paint studio) and lot of work. The idea was to make a portrait of a beautiful girl with good lighting and strong color scheme. I wanted to make this one for my Portfolio. So the final result must to be ok to be presented to a client showing good technique and not hyperrealism but a real portrait.

This was the first image I saw some years ago made by you. Then i saw the stuff made by Deevad. And after that crazy stuff happened. I got mypaint and the gps set, bought a wacom and started with digital art. It's like getting kicked in the ass by you ~ thanks :D

nice to hear something like that. we always need "inspiration" and a Kick ass sometimes. Even veterans are always changing and learning. it is a matter of time and effort.

Ay no inventes.

(digo, soñar no cuesta nada, jejeje)

On the video, how where you able to move to canvas at the same time in GIMP?

move to canvas? i don´´t understand. but on is refference and other is the painting. maybe that solve your question?

Haha, Sorry, when I looked at the video again, I forgot that it was set to 5x the speed and it looked like when you were panning the canvas in GIMP and two windows moved at the same time, where you had two GIMP windows open with one being the painting and the other being the original reference, but when you actually moved one at a time. ^^

Hi Ramon! Very nice brush work and palette in this image, it really shows the potential of GPS :)

I think it would have been better to add to the description that the painting is strictly based on a photo: [link]

Have a nice time and keep painting! :)

Hi thanks for the comment, but you are wrong on one thing, this is not a paintover as you say on the link description, it is painted from scratch, and of course i said that is photoreference. in the video you can see the photo and the painting at the same time ;) .[link] .anyway i apreciate your suggestion. :D

Hi, that was a fast response :) Which video? I can't see the link to the video and where you said you used a photoreference, in the deviantArt description.

I wrote "paintover" in the filename because putting the painting above the original photo many parts were a 90% match, but I trust you if you said it was not. My idea was that you started from the photo and used GPS natural painting tools for elaborating it to a painting. Whatever, I hope you didn't mind my observation :)

90% match! hmm not too bad but i can do it better :P. nop in the link there is a making of too. and in the text you can see the link and the refference , it is all in the blog. maybe here i didn´t put it, bacause i thought it was obvious. not worry for observations i like these type of feedback too. GPS is to paint from scratch, not only retouch artistically! but good ide , never thought this use, like corel painter trace. [link] the right image is the photoreference. and making of [link]

Jejeje que bien, she is a cute girl XD.

Wow- this is astonishingly well done. Gimp Paint Studio is a great set of plugins- I've enjoyed using it in the past. This looks exceptional- the colors are all just right, there are so many sublime details weaving in there... just a really good job altogether. Certainly a good shot at a realistic portrait.
